Using Stanbol to enhance medical data by exploring Linked Data

Cytogenetics Lab, Institute of Mother and Child,  in cooperation with CompBio group at the University of Warsaw, presents a demo of a research & clinical tool IMID2py now empowered with Apache Stanbol.

Linked data from life sciences is a substantial part of the LOD cloud [1], it contains most interlinks. With the use of Apache Stanbol components: Entityhub, Contenthub, Enhancer, we proposed a solution which allows our users geneticists to:

  • annotate medical content (i.e. a result from genetic experiment) with relevant data
  • formulate various queries, use several provided enhancers, search indexed LOD entities with VIE auto-complete
  • search among tagged annotations, with facets provided by Stanbol Contenthub

Tree of enhancements
In our solution, user creates a tree of enhancements for her/his content: this is a small part of a LOD cloud which users find relevant.  A user is able to search for enhancements thanks to Entityhub with pre-indexed linked data from large open databases: UNIPROT, PubMed, eHealth.

IKS Semantic CMS Academy Now Available

During the last two years we have created academic training material that addresses the different aspects of semantic content management. This material discusses foundational topics, like content management in general, the semantic web and underlying technologies as well as advanced concepts of modeling complex knowledge domains using ontologies. Using the approaches, models and methods developed in the IKS project, up-to-date research results are presented for introducing semantic content management and software engineering approaches for developing semantic CMS. IKS Community Survey – Lets build a Service together

As we approach the end of the official IKS project phase (end of 2012) it is time to shift our focus and effort towards ensuring that the results continue to provide value beyond 2012 to a broad community.

The recent announcements of Apache Stanbol becoming a top-level project at the Apache Software Foundation and for example TYPO3 Neos adopting VIE and Create.js for its content editing framework, are evidence that substantial progress has already been made. However we have also been asked by early adopters and developers to provide a stable and reliable web service for the running of demonstrators/prototypes and overall testing of the Stanbol enhancement engines. Also we consider such a service as key to keep building on the ecosystem of partners that are using Apache Stanbol and to preserve “openess” as one key foundation of the overall project.

So we have decided to go to the community in the form of a survey to ask about the setup and needs of a “Stanbol as a Service”. We have kept the form as short as possible so please do take the time to tell us how you would like to use such a service as part of growing your business further.

Please also share this with other relevant contacts.

Go to the IKS Online Survey – 15 minutes max, I promise.

TYPO3 Neos content editing based on VIE and Create.js

Last september you could read about the VIE and Create.js implementation in TYPO3 Phoenix. Now roughly a month has passed, and the first alpha release of the product is released. The codename is dropped, and the product is now named TYPO3 Neos. This new content management system from the TYPO3 community has content editing which is fully based on VIE and Create.js.
